Retreat facilities / Friar's residence

St. Michael's Retreat was established in 1963, is owned and operated by the Franciscan Friars of Western Canada and operates through an interchurch board.

It overlooks the beautiful Qu'Appelle valley, about 30 kms NW of Saskatchewan's capital city, Regina.

Eight Franciscan Friars and a dedicated staff of lay persons from the nearby town of Lumsden provide a year-round haven for a variety of retreatants in an environment of peace, quiet and prayer, away from the "busy-ness" of our modern secular world.

About St. Michael's

THE LOCATION

St. Michael’s Retreat is located about 30 kms NW of Saskatchewan’s capital city, Regina, overlooking the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley.  Access is through the Town of Lumsden, just off #11 Highway ( Louis Riel Way).

THE OPERATION

St. Michael’s Retreat was established in 1963, by the Franciscan Friars of Western Canada at the request of the then-Archbishop Michael O’Neill.

Presently, the Franciscan Friars of St. Michael’s together with the Roman Catholic, Anglican and Lutheran communities operate the Retreat Centre through an Interchurch Board. A team of dedicated friars and staff  keep the centre welcoming and comfortable.

RETREATS

Retreats and programs conducted by  representatives of the three  traditions  are based  on  the teachings of Jesus Christ.  A regular weekend/two day retreat, has five teaching/sharing sessions of  approximately forty to fifty  minutes.  An atmosphere of silence, meditation and reflection during retreats promotes a listening attitude which enables spiritual growth.  Free time is scheduled into the program along with the talks and prayers.  Opportunities are available for private sessions with Retreat Team members: Friars Kevin Lynch, Dominic Tessier, the Executive Director, Donna Fischer, and Director's Assistant, Brenda McAlpine, along with guest presenters.

 PRIVATE  RETREATS

Persons wishing to retreat on their own, with little or no input from a member of the retreat team are invited to call the retreat during weekday office hours to book a private retreat.

OUR FACILITY

The chapel is the centre of St. Michael’s surrounded by the conference room, meeting room, dining room, lounge area with fireplace, bookstore and library. We have 44 single rooms and two double rooms all with bathroom and shower

OUR GROUNDS

 COST

We have a policy that inability to pay will not keep anyone from attending our retreats.  Please contact the Director.  Our cost for a regular weekend retreat is $115.00/person; $125.00 when we have a guest presenter.  An income tax  receipt is issued for donations above our cost. Donations of any amount, allows us to help others.  Retreatants are asked to send a $20.00 non-refundable ( but applicable to the total cost) registration fee along with Name, Address, Phone and Retreat Date to:

A Retreat is Time Set Aside for:

  • quiet listening &  private reflection

  • spiritual renewal through prayer & meditation

  • self evaluation &  serious consideration of wellness as opposed to illness in our attitude toward life

Ecumenical

Today's realities call us to a vision beyond our own purely Catholic traditions. To that end, we now collaborate with representatives of the Catholic Archdiocese, the Anglican and Lutheran communities, and have formed an Ecumenical Board of Directors, which oversees the whole operation of the Retreat Centre.
